Asia Argento was born in Rome, Italy, into a family of actors and filmmakers, both occupations which she herself has pursued. When she was nine she began her acting career in Sergio Cittis Sogni e bisogni. In 1988, she played her role as the main character in Cristina Comencini's first film, Zoo (1988), as well as being part of the cast of The Church (1989), directed by Michele Soavi. Red Wood Pigeon, directed also by Moretti in 1989, featured her character in the role of Nanni Moretti's daughter. It was in Close Friends (1992), written and directed by Michele Placido, that Asia's career took off. she was able to transition from portraying very young girls into more complex, mature characters. The film received an enthusiastic reception at the Cannes International Film Festival. The Phantom of the Opera was her third collaboration together with her dad. Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome were the two previous films. The Phantom of the Opera is the third film she has acted in with her Father, the first two films being Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome. Asia's focused and intense style of acting was also utilized in the film by Giuseppe Piccioni in Condannato a Nozze. Patrice Chereau directed Queen Margot as well. She played the role of the physically challenged girl in that film. In 1995 she worked with Michel Piccoli in Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion , which again won her a David diDonatello and a Grolla d'oro. In 1994 Asia decided to try her hand at the art of directing, and produced two film shorts: Prospettive In 1996, she produced a documentary about her father, and in 1998, she directed a documentary about the legendary director Abel Ferrara, Abel/Asia (1998) that was awarded an award at the Rome Film Festival. Asia began directing her first feature film in 1999 with Scarlet Diva (2000). She was also the main performer, as well as the creator for the screenplay. The film came out in May 2000 in Italy and the rest of the world. The film was honoured by the Williamsburg Festival of Brooklyn, New York. Anna Lou was born in 2001 following her directing several music videos. She starred with Jean-Marc Barr as Jean-Marc Barr in The Red Siren, directed by Olivier Megaton. In 2003 she starred alongside Vin Diesel and Rob Cohen's action-thriller. Asia also has a selection of stories that have been published in some of the most prestigious magazines.
